南韓電池大廠三星SDI周三（28日）表示，已經與通用汽車（GM）達成最終協議，投入35億美元在美興建一座年產能27吉瓦時（GWh）的電池廠。在首爾證交所，三星SDI股價早盤上漲3.4%，表現遠優於基準的KOSPI指數下跌近0.5%。
兩家公司的合資建廠計畫於2023年4月首次宣布，當時GM和三星SDI表示，將耗資超過30億美元，計劃的產能是30 GWh，預計2026年開始運作。

三星SDI今天表示，這座電池廠的目標是2027年量產，在擴產計畫下，年產能有可能擴大到36 GWh。
GM的電池和電池組副總裁Kurt Kelly說，電池合資廠「可能擴展到36 GWh，生產方形電池，這將添加進入我們電池技術的組合當中，有助我們未來繼續提高性能並降低成本」。 他是與三星SDI執行長一起敲定這座工廠。
去年，GM表示，預計印第安那州工廠會有同時生產富鎳的方形和圓柱形電池。
