臺北市立動物園今年適逢建園110周年，今（22）特別邀請臺北市木柵忠順廟為園區動物及工作同仁舉行「慰靈祭」傳統儀典，感念和緬懷過去一年逝世的動物們，包括亞洲黑熊「小熊」、小貓熊「美可」和「YaYa」、雙峰駱駝「煙雨」等，藉由中元普渡再次感謝牠們的陪伴。
動物園園長諶亦聰表示，從年輕到邁入老齡，動物們終將畫下生命的句點，即便理解生老病死是常態，如何面對生命放下執念，仍是動物園和大眾一生的課題。

今年是臺北市立動物園建園110周年，正好也是距首次動物園舉辦動物「慰靈祭」的一百年後。動物「慰靈祭」可追溯至1924年起，動物園內便開始不定時替往生動物進行宗教法事儀典，在過去年代的園史記載還曾經讓動物來擔任代表參加儀式；動物園表示，「慰靈祭」的誕生，也正是以生命教育作為大眾省思的起點，亦是表達對動物陪伴情誼的追思、祈福與感謝。
動物園更強調，因應現代社會發展出多元的形式，例如疫情期間克服空間限制辦理的線上法會及尊重多元信仰儀式等方式。今(2024)年除了邀請木柵忠順廟來園進行「動物慰靈祭暨中元普度法會」，在8月9日也邀請了基督教長老主持「平安禱告會」、8月12日邀請臺北地藏禪寺舉辦線上法會。
