陳榮堅強調，如果打嗝伴隨特殊氣味，應特別小心，尤其是以下三種氣味：
- 打嗝有苦味：這通常與膽汁逆流有關，尤其是糖尿病患者胃排空功能不佳，容易引發膽汁逆流。曾有患者沒有不舒服，僅有打嗝時出現苦味，最終被診斷為胰臟癌。
- 打嗝有腐臭味：這可能是胃部發炎或胃癌的跡象。當胃發炎嚴重，胃壁可能出現腐敗組織，導致打嗝時散發出腐臭味。另外，若胃出口阻塞，食物無法順利排出，長時間滯留在胃內發酵，也會引起腐臭味。
- 打嗝有血腥味：這可能與消化道或腫瘤出血有關，如胃潰瘍或胃癌導致的內部出血，會使打嗝帶有血腥氣味。
