一位網友在網路論壇PTT八卦版上，以「沒人發現每天通勤超過1小時很愚蠢嗎！」為題發文提到，一堆台灣人的房子，都買在離公司很遠的地方，因此每天通勤需約1小時、下班來回則要2小時，用每月工作22天來算，一個月會有44個小時在通勤。

原PO認為，在通勤的時間裡，幾乎什麼事情都不能做，因此換算之後，等於每個月都有近2天的生命，在通勤上而白白浪費掉。原PO提到，一堆人覺得房子住偏僻一點可以省錢，卻不知道無形中花掉了自己用金錢，也買不到的生命時間。
貼文一出，不少人認為「通勤在車上也是可以睡覺啊」、「薪水高就值得」、「也能騎單車啊！通勤就是運動，省錢又賺到健康」等不同意見，也是有其他網友贊同「所以一堆工程師都買在竹科附近」、「加班過後，真的很不想痛苦硬開一個小時回家」等看法。
