颶風貝羅（Beryl）挾帶強風豪雨橫掃加勒比海東南部數座島嶼之後，今天晚間升級為最高強度的5級風暴。
法新社報導，美國國家颶風中心（US NationalHurricane Center）表示，貝羅是大西洋歷來最早形成的5級颶風，已發展成「潛在災難性」颶風，最大持續風速為每小時260公里。

美國國家颶風中心指出，今天凌晨，加勒比海國家格瑞那達（Grenada）的卡瑞亞可島（CarriacouIsland）遭到貝羅「極其危險的眼牆」直接襲擊，當時持續風速高達240公里。
根據美國國家颶風中心，包括聖文森及格瑞那丁（St. Vincent and the Grenadines）在內，附近島嶼也經歷「災難性強風與威脅性命的暴潮」。
聖文森及格瑞那丁總理龔薩福（Ralph Gonsalves）在記者會上說：「半個小時內，卡瑞亞可就被夷為平地。」
龔薩福又說，「我們尚未脫離險境」，並指出目前雖尚未傳出傷亡通報，但也無法確定沒有人罹難。
