今年度最受矚目的「紫金山-阿特拉斯彗星」，今（12）晚六點多在彗星抵達近地點後，就有機會看到彗星的蹤影。前氣象局長鄭明典表示，帶狀白色影像就是彗星的尾巴，彗星離開正對太陽方向，且「地面就有機會看到」。
天文館昨下午在臉書上預告，「紫金山-阿特拉斯彗星即將現身！」並表示，最新觀測亮度達1等，並有長達20度以上的彗尾，相當壯觀。在10月11日前，由於彗星飛掠地球與太陽之間，受陽光阻隔而難以觀察，但在10月12日（六）彗星抵達近地點後，可於傍晚18時起朝向西方低空尋找，若天候許可應能看到彗星的蹤影。在無光害環境下，並使用雙筒望遠鏡觀察，要看到明亮的彗尾並不困難。
