今年第3號颱風「凱米（GAEMI）」來勢洶洶、全台各地陸續放颱風假應對，自24日清晨觸陸後，其後續走向仍是關注重點，日本氣象廳則預估，凱米差不多會在24日晚間6時許、自宜花登陸，另外瞬間最大風速可達每秒65公尺，為日本「強烈颱風」標準。
日本氣象廳數據顯示，包含石垣島、西表島和宮古島在內的地區，已經測得超過每秒25公尺的瞬間風速，另外由於凱米颱風移動速度較為緩慢，因此預估將於24日晚間6時許自宜花地區登陸，屆時將達到日本「強烈颱風」標準、須慎防強風豪雨。

從氣象廳最新預估路徑圖可以看到，上午5時許仍位於沖繩縣西表島南南西約140公里的海面上的凱米，在中心氣壓為950百帕，中心附近最大風速達每秒45公尺，最大瞬間風速達每秒60公尺的情況下，以每小時約20公里的速度向西北移動。
由於凱米移動速度緩慢，日本氣象廳認為「影響時間可能延長」，然而即便預估凱米將於24日晚間達強颱標準，我國中央氣象署目前仍維持中度颱風、不排除未來強度有增強趨勢；日本強烈颱風定義為，最大風速介於44m/s、54m/s之間。
